Music & Traditions

As an athlete and someone who constantly listens to music, what I play before a race is more than just background noise: it sets my mindset. The right song can take me from nervous or tired to focused. I listen to music before every race to build energy, boost my confidence, and remind myself of all the work I’ve put in. Whether it’s fast beats, powerful lyrics, or a track that brings back a great memory, music helps me block out distractions and step onto the track feeling motivated and ready to give everything I’ve got. Here are some examples of music I listen to before my races:

1. A music to hype me up:

I listen to this song with my friends before every race and we even create a dance for this song. After listening to this song, I can feel all the energy I have.

2. A music to motivate me:

I have a playlist with songs I only listen to for motivation, but I always play these two songs in particular.

I also listen to other music, not as "serious" as Let it all work out by Lil Wayne such as Tate McRae songs or Beyoncé:

And I also listen to french songs before my races (obviously):

In the end, music is more than just sound for me as an athlete: it’s a tool for performance. The right song can calm nerves, boost confidence, and trigger the mindset needed to compete at full power. Whether it’s for focus or adrenaline, music helps me to connect with my emotions and control my energy. That’s why so many competitors treat their pre-race playlist like part of their routine, because sometimes, one song is all it takes to turn pressure into power.

  2. Hey Inès, I really liked your post. I also use music to deal with stress and emotions, so I totally relate. Even though we listen to different artists, it’s cool how music helps us both feel better. Thanks for sharing your story!

  3. Hey Inès! I enjoyed reading your blog. I always find it interesting to hear about pre race music. I know some people like to listen to something that pumps them up and leaves them feeling energized, some people play something easy going and some people just listen to nothing at all. I found it interesting the type of music that you listen to before your competition. I’ve heard the Tate McRae song and the Lil Wayne song too but I am interested in the French songs you linked. Thank you for sharing!

  5. Inès : I love how you shared your view on songs as an athlete! I too understand getting hype before competing. It also helps me wake up when I have practice I have to be at by 6am. I love the songs you put as your preworkout playlist. I have never heard of these so I'll def be trying these in the mornings before practice!!

  6. Beyoncé reminds me of long car rides with my mom, listening to her sing along to all the songs it brings back some really good memories. And, Lil Wayne is a great artist. I really like the song you chose because it sends a strong message about pushing through and not giving up. It's the kind of song that can motivate anyone going through tough times
