Myself

Hi everyone ! My name is Inès. I have never played an instrument in my life (I am way better at sports !) but I took this class to discover a bit more about the world from a musical point of view.

I am French and grew up in Paris. I had never left my city for more than 2 month (only for vacations), but I decided to come to the United States to be a student-athlete. I am part of the cross-country and track team here at Converse, and I have been doing athletics since I was 6 years old. I visited many countries, but I had only been to the United States once before.

Even though I have never played any instruments, I listen to a lot of music.

Here is an exemple of a music I really like and to which I listen a lot right now:

I love Drake and his music. In Headlines, Drake raps about success, pressure and staying true to himself but that is not especially why I love this song. Of course I like the lyrics, but the beat gets stuck in my head every time I listen to it, and I think that's why I play this song so much.

I also have a music that is deeply important to me:

This is a French song published 8 years ago and it means a lot to me because at this time, I was in the mountain with my family for vacation during winter break. This song was playing on the radio almost every hour, so we ended up singing it all together. That's why this song is really meaningful for me.

I kind of like all types of music, but if I had to choose one that I really cannot listen to, it would, without any doubt, be classical music. I can't really explain why I don't like this type of music, but every time I heard it on the radio, for example, I have to change it and put something else on.

  1. You’re a new teammate of mine (I run track), so I was excited to learn more about you through your music choices. You recently moved to America to compete as a student-athlete, and you shared that you’d never been away from home for more than two months—you’re from Paris. The song that stood out to me as the most interesting was “Bazardée” by KeBlack. You mentioned that it was always playing when you and your family were in the mountains, which made me feel like the song holds a lot of memories for you. The upbeat vibe makes it feel lighthearted and fun, the kind of track you can just enjoy and sing along to without thinking too hard. It gave me a little window into your world back home.

The song I liked the best was “Headlines” by Drake. And hopefully this doesn’t take away from my “music analysis credibility” (lol), but this one is just too good to pass up. Drake is such a major figure across so many genres, and this song in particular is a classic—it’s peak Drake, back-to-back hits, and a sound that defined an era. Beyond that, though, I like how motivating it feels. It has that energy that reminds you to keep pushing and reaching for your potential, because there’s always more to achieve.

    1. Inès, I really enjoyed reading your blog! We both put Drake down as something we have been listening to lately and I found that really cool. Headlines is a pretty good song! Drakes really at the top of 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲!

I also can definitely agree as far as music you don't like goes. I have never really been a fan of classical music, and I almost added this to my own blog.

Lastly, as far as music you have a deep connection to, I found the story that goes along with it pretty cool. A lot of my favorite music has been shown to me or shared with those close to me :)

  2. I found KeBlack’s “Bazardée” the most interesting because I hadn’t heard it before, and I liked how you connected it to a personal memory from your family vacation. That kind of emotional connection makes music even more meaningful. My favorite song from your post was Drake’s “Headlines”—I’ve heard it before and always liked its catchy beat and confident vibe. I also thought it was cool how you shared your dislike for classical music; it shows how unique everyone’s taste can be!

  3. Hey teammate! I really enjoyed reading the part where you talked about the French song and the connection it has with your family. I can similarly relate with other songs. When I was younger, any time my brother, dad, and I were in the car we would listen to a lot of the same songs together so it gave us that connection. I like the part when you're talking about the Drake song how you get stuck on the beat
